History
The origin of flying in Policka dates back to 1929 - the year of foundation of "Community organization for progress in aviation and its employment for defense and development of the country." In the first couple of years, the main part of the activites focused on making aviation more popular among local people and increasing the number of members.
In 1931, first air-show was held in Bystre, and the first glider "Skaut" was purchased. In 1934, two more gliders (Zlin V and Zlin VI) came, and in that year independent flying in Policka actually bagan. The hangar was built and Zlin VI was equipped with a motorbike engine.
Between 1938 and 1945, during the occupation of the Czechoslovak Republic, the club activites had to pause and we lost the gliders and the hangar. After the war, only one of the gliders - Zlin VI - was found, but, unfortunately, due to its long storage in humid environment, not airworthy anymore. In 1945, the gliders of Policka joined the Czech National Gliding Association and got enthusiastically back to work again. With a lot of problems, enough land was purchased from the farmers and the airfield facilities began to be constructed. Our club was alloted a glider - SK-38, and a year later two more - Honza and Baby 2. Vaclav and Cestmir Vorisek started building a two-seat motor plane. After year and half, the plane was successfuly finished. However, in 1949 it was destroyed in an accident and never repaired.
In the fifties, the club joined the national association Svazarm and got two new gliders - Sohaj 25 and Sohaj 125, and in 1953 two-seat glider Pionyr. In that year first long-distance flight was accomplished in Policka - Cestmir Vorisek flew the distance of 75 km. In the fifties we trained a number of outstanding pilots - later instructors, among whom there were Vladimir Javurek, Milos Vencovsky, Antonie Javurkova and Jan Vesely.
Another important event for us was alloting of the first all-metal glider L13 Blanik to Policka in 1963. It was soon followed by a high-performance glider VT16 Orlik.
Currently, Policka gliding club own two gliders L13 Blanik, one K7, one-seat gliders VSO-10, ASW-15B, ASW-24WL, a motor-powered glider L13 SE Vivat and ultralight WT-9 Dynamic.
